Ficus elastica 'Tineke' is native to Southeast Asia. It is also known as Rubber Tree, Rubber Plant, or Rubber Fig.
Light: Bright, indirect light. Can tolerate dapple direct light.
Water: Water when the soil is about 50-75% dry. Top leaves will begin to droop and curl inwards.
Repotting: Repot into a nutrient rich, chunky soil. You can add orchid bark, gravel, LECA, perlite, rice hulls, etc into a regular potting mix. If repotting into a glazed ceramic or plastic pot, you won’t need to water as often as the pot will retain moisture. Terra cotta or unglazed ceramic is sometimes better to allow more airflow to the soil.
Pet-Safe: No, sap contains calcium oxalate crystals, a substance that irritates skin, mucous membranes and the body. Pet will need to consume a lot of this plant to experience any irritation or sickness, it is okay to be around your pet.
Troubleshooting: Ficus tend to have an acclimatation period in their new environment. You may see your new Ficus shed or lose leaves in the first month. They to be the lowest (older) leaves. Keep it in its new spot and try not to move it around.
