Direct, full sun. Water when entirety of soil is bone dry and cactus appears noticeably skinnier and less rigid. This can take several weeks to months! It can be helpful to take a photograph of your cactus when you first purchase it, and compare it's size/thickness 1-2 months later to see if it's lost water and thinned.
